I've Not Had a Lung Health Check
If you’ve not had a health check yet but HAVE received your invite – follow instructions in the invite to book your appointment. We understand that sometimes people have concerns, if you do have any queries you can contact your lung health team - contacts are provided on the invite letter or are available on the location or contact pages of the website.
If you have not received an invite but think you should have done, contact your lung health team. If your GP practice is not involved or if the GP practice don’t think you meet the criteria (for instance if they are not aware you have smoked), it may explain you not receiving an invite. You must be: Aged 55 – 74, a smoker or have a history of smoking, and registered with a participating GP practice. Please contact your lung health check team by looking at your location page here or our contact pages, or contact your GP if you have not heard about an appointment and would like to receive one.
If you are not registered with a GP practice but checks are available for people in your area and you would like an appointment contact your local lung health check team or register with a participating GP practice. It may be possible to arrange for you to have an appointment but you will most likely have to register with a local GP practice first. People who are new to an area, or are travellers or homeless, should have access to GP services.
If you’ve not been invited, not had a lung health check, but are worried about any existing symptoms, please get in touch with your GP practice. Symptoms you may be concerned about could include:
- a cough that does not go away after 3 weeks
- an existing cough that changes or gets worse
- chest infections that keep coming back
- coughing up blood
- being short of breath a lot
- unexplained tiredness
- an ache or pain when breathing or coughing
- loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss
Do not wait for a lung health check if you have any of these symptoms, get in touch with your GP practice. (Please note this applies to any age with regards to concerns over symptoms not just the age group typically invited for lung health checks).
